'The Problem' Do we call ourselves a tribute band, or just a band that performs covers of Cure songs? |

Steve, on guitar and vocals - The Problem is..... I struggle to sing and play at the same time. Some would say I struggle to sing or play at any time! I've been attempting to play for coming up on 3 years now and it's still taking time to sink in. I originally started to learn at Foxhill, to help my son with his practice. But soon got roped into, what can only be described as the 'Dads Band'! In three years of Music School concerts I've performed songs, by artists ranging from Nick Cave, Placebo & Pixies through to Bowie, Pink Floyd and Lynrd Skynrd! And now it's time (having once been a Goth back in the 80s!) for The Cure!! |

Dave on drums - Here's the problem - I just can't talk while drinking!!!!! However, In 2005 my 11 year old son, Connor asked if he could have a drum kit. Thinking it was just another fad I told him he could but would have to buy it himself. Surprisingly he did, and more surprisingly I ended up playing it as much as he did. 4 years later and several thousand pounds poorer I am still playing. During that time I have played at several festivals at Foxhill Music School and other events. The first actual band I played with was the COG's (Crusty Old Gits). This was a group of the 'older' generation students from Foxhill and we played at the regular Foxhill festivals. In 2007 I formed another band by coaxing some friends into coming along to a lesson at Foxhill Music School and after an hour with the one and only Patrick Guy they were hooked and we formed 'Barphobia'. We have played together for almost 2 years and played at various festivals and other events. In early '09 a band called 'The Problem' fell on hard times and were so desperate that they asked me if I wanted to be their drummer. Unfortunately for them, I agreed and we are to perform our first gig in august this year! BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!! |

Pete lead guitar - Hi guys and gills Pete here! . Well let me think back, not really sure it was a problem, but….. I purchased my first guitar at the age of twelve and became inspired to play by listening to the legendary band "The Who" and watching Pete Townsend, what an awesome man. A few years later I progressed into hard Rock, metal, whatever you want to call it. That's when i was introduced to legends like Randy Rhoads, Zack Wylde, Dimebag Darrel, Alex Skolnick, Angus Young and Dave Murray. (I could go on...) I formed a band in the last year of school with a friend. We called our self Damage.Inc and played 'Enter Sandman' for three nights at the school's Christmas concert. I left school, started working and acquired two beautiful children from the local cash and carry! (Only joking!!) Playing was put on the back burner for too long. About four year's ago I joined a band called 'Rodeo Beat Machine', a rugby outfit playing original stuff. We played in a few pubs in Rugby then after about a year that went tit's up. Now I'm playing with a bunch of Nutters on this 'Cure Tribute' project. We've called our self 'The Problem'. I've been playing with these guys for about two or three months and although the music's is a bit different to what I'm used to playing, it's going well. |

Paul on Bass - The problem started in September 2006 when I was invited by a friend to visit Foxhill music school to act as a guinea pig. We were to test out an idea for "team building". One of six guinea pigs thrown in at the deep-end, we were to test out the theory that it was possible to take six non-musicians, and within hours, have each of them playing an instrument. Not only playing, but writing and performing a song! And it actually worked! By the end of the day we'd written words, written music, and incredibly we were each playing a musical instrument……I, (who'd never even touched a guitar in my life), was the guitarist! At the end of the day I chatted to Patrick and, although I was playing the 6 string guitar, we decided I should try to play the bass………… I suspect it was not because of any latent talent on my part but more probably because Patrick was short of a bass player at that time! (However, I do love the bass). Now some 2 years later, I play bass........ (well…….. 'playing' might be too strong a word, but it sounds as though I hit the right notes most of the time!) It's been a whirlwind experience. Not ever having been one for the limelight, nor having touched a musical instrument in my life, it's all been a great shock to the system……. Many would say at my age I've suffered a mid-life crisis!........well….possibly, but, did I miss this great experience when I was young? No, I don't think so, however, had I taken up bass playing earlier, I might have been a millionaire by now! Had not been for the brilliance, patience and skill of Patrick, our genius music teacher, and his ultimate belief in me I would still not even know what a bass guitar was! |
